Layla Bridges has fallen head over heels in love with Grayson Miles; a handsome man with the charisma to match his looks. There is only one obstacle preventing them from being a couple; Grayson is engaged to Layla’s cousin Sofia. In an attempt to take her mind off of Grayson, Layla befriends Ronald and tries hard to focus all of her attention on him. But she soon discovers that no matter how hard she tries, her relationship with Ronald isn’t enough to suppress her desires for Grayson.

Unable to resist the allure of Grayson, Layla gives in to temptation and becomes his lover on the side despite the affect it will have on her cousin. But soon what’s done in the dark comes to light when a vindictive family member exposes Layla’s affair with Grayson.  The revelation leaves Sofia distraught as she struggles to deal with the infidelity of her fiancé and the added sting that his lover is the one person she loved like a sister.  

Sophia confronts Layla and Layla, in turn, confronts the family informant, only to discover hidden secrets which are darker than the one she has been keeping. The family tree is shaken and uprooted from the core by one dark disclosure after another.  As Layla absorbs the shocking news of her upbringing, life becomes even more complicated for her when she learns she has a life-threatening illness and the only option for her survival lies in the very hands of the woman she has betrayed.  Through tragic circumstances and events, Layla is forced to reevaluate her life and ultimately test the strength of her relationships with both Ronald and Grayson to determine if she was ever more than just a lover in the eyes of either man.
